Dr. Gregory Rorrer Greg Rorrer is a Professor of Chemical Engineering in the School of Chemical, Biological, and Environmental Engineering (CBEE) at Oregon State University (OSU). Dr. Rorrer is the former James and Shirley Kuse Chair & Head of CBEE, has served a Program Director at the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), and was a U.S. Fulbright Faculty Scholar in Austria. He is also a co-author of the widely-used undergraduate textbook Fundamentals of Momentum, Heat and Mass Transfer, now in its 7th edition.
Dr. Rorrer has research expertise in bioprocess engineering and biotechnology, with a current focus on harnessing the unique metabolic capacities of photosynthetic organisms in engineered systems for production of bioactive metabolites, nanostructured materials, and biofuels. Dr. Rorrer is presently the principal investigator on three projects funded by USDA, NOAA, and NSF focusing on the intensification of red seaweed aquaculture for production of bioproducts and ocean-based carbon sequestration.
Tania Siemens holds a Master's degree in Natural Resource management from Cornell University. As a research assistant at Oregon Sea Grant, Tania researched, developed, tested, and promoted educational programs, activities and curriculum for use in formal and information educational settings. She also has worked with private and public partners to develop tools that will address critical issues such as water quality, invasive species, and aquaculture development. She recently retired from work due to health issues, but still enjoys staying involved on a volunteer basis. At home Tania loves biking, gardening, hiking, and cooking for her family.

Arthur Veremchuk is a graduate student studying chemical engineering at Oregon State University where he also graduated with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering in 2021. He now works under the supervision of Dr. Gregory Rorrer. Arthur is focusing on developing an understanding of the growth of red seaweed in engineered land-based systems. In his free time he enjoys woodworking and fishing.

Emily Hicks is a graduate student at Oregon State University in the M.S. Marine Resource Management program studying the perceptions held towards the invasive Mud Blister Worm (polydora spp.) in PNW estuaries. She is also working with projects on the ostreid herpesvirus as it impacts Oregon aquaculture, and national campus biosecurity policies. She lives in Veneta, OR with her life partner, daughter, and cats. In her free time she enjoys bicycling, hiking, reading scifi and fantasy, quilting, knitting, and baking.
Rainey Campbell is an undergraduate student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has been working as an intern for Oregon SeaGrant since 2022 on the Don't Pack a Pest for Academic Travelers Project. Rainey is an Environmental Studies major, minoring in Environmental Justice and Business. She enjoys working with researchers and academics alike on sustainable solutions to environmental problems.

Yuri Sokolov is an undergraduate at Oregon State University studying Fisheries and Wildlife Conservation Sciences. They began working as a student intern at Oregon Sea Grant in 2023 and have been part of multiple outreach projects, including the Don’t Pack a Pest program and a literature review on the Oyster herpesvirus threatening Oregon agriculture. In their free time, they practice textile arts, write, and take care of their beautiful cat, Carmilla.
Adam Shokes completed his bachelor’s degree at Clemson University in the field of Packaging Science with an emphasis in Materials Science, with the goal to pursue reducing pollution in marine ecosystems. Seeking to further direct his studies toward marine life, Adam is presently pursuing his master’s degree in Marine Resource Management at Oregon State University, where his research takes a focus on the co-culture of red seaweed, purple urchins, and sea cucumbers. In his free time Adam enjoys swimming, listening to records, baseball, and live music.
