About the Rorrer Lab

The Rorrer Lab investigates red seaweed extensively, with graduate students designing and integrating raceway cultivation systems to develop new morphologies and examine their roles in carbon uptake and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) production to support ecosystem services. Beyond red seaweed, the lab also studies the biotechnology of photosynthetic organisms for applications such as biofuel production, ocean-based carbon sequestration, pharmaceutical biosynthesis, environmental remediation, and the biofabrication of nanostructured materials.
